Enjoy your Panasonic Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder with DIGA Player

DIGA Player is an application which enables you to watch programs recorded in Panasonic Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder and on-air programs on your Android devices, regardless of location in a house.

1.    Set up Recorder

Set up recorder before starting to operate DIGA Player.

1. 1.    Go to FUNCTION MENU

Step1:
Start up recorder. Press down "FUNCTION MENU" key conjugated to an infrared remote control to display "FUNCTION MENU".

Step2:
Select "Others" in "FUNCTION MENU", and select "Setup" next.

1. 2.    Set up Network (wireless LAN)


 

 

Step3:
After "Setup" is displayed on the screen, select "Network" and then select "Network Settings".
 
In the term 4th to 11th, set up wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) in the recorder. In addition, wired LAN can also correspond to the recorder. If you use wired LAN, skip the term 4th to 11th, and go straight to the term 12th.

Step4:
Change "Wired" to "Wireless" in "LAN Connection Mode". After changing, the screen will revert to "Network Settings" automatically.


 

Step5:
Select "Wireless Settings", and then select "Connection Settings".
 
There are several methods for setting up wireless LAN (Wi-Fi).This term explains procedures for operating "Connection Settings". It also includes WPS and the like, which enable certifications to access Wi-Fi access point automatically. As to the use of WPS, refer to the operation manual of Panasonic Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder.

Step6:
When you select "Connection Settings", the recorder will automatically search wireless Network and display "Network name (SSID)" on the screen.

Step7:
Among "Network name (SSID)" that are searched, select the same "Network name (SSID)" as adapted to your Android devices.

Step8:
Next, set up wireless Network you selected. Select "Encryption Key" and enter a cryptography key by using "Software Keyboard".

Step9:
After entering a cryptography key, select "Set" in "Wireless Settings".

Step10:
When "Set" is selected, the recorder will automatically start connecting to wireless LAN of the Network name (SSID) you selected. After connection is completed, the screen will automatically change to "Wireless Settings (connection setup completed)".

Step11:
Press "OK" key on a remote control to return to "Wireless Settings" screen again. Press "RETURN" key on a remote control to return to "Network Settings".

1. 3.    Set up DLNA

Step12:
Next, select "Home Network Settings" in "Network Settings".

Step13:
Select "Home Network function" in "Home Network Settings".

Step14:
Change "Off" to "On" in "Home Network function".

Step15:
"Cautions for Home Network function" is displayed, select "Yes".
 
You are all set for setting up recorder.
 
You can confine Android devices to the use of your Android devices for controlling the recorder, as well. It is also possible to set up "Enable" or "Disable" to connect to individual Network device (Android devices or any device that has the function of DLNA) by changing "Automatic" to "Manual" in "Registration type for remote devices" in "Home Network Settings".

2.    Let's use DIGA Player by Android device of phone type

Recorded program on the recorder or live broadcast can be viewed on Android device by using DIGA Player. Also it is convenient to be used as remote control when viewing on TV.

2. 1.    Let's connect to Panasonic Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder.

DIGA Player is activated by tapping DIGA Player icon of Android device.

By tapping "Watch Broadcast and Play all video" on Menu screen, DIGA Player searches compatible recorders that are connected on the same wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) network as Android device.
When the recorder which is going to be used is displayed on Android device, tap the list. (This list will not be displayed from the second time.) DIGA Player is connected to the recorder and recorded program and channel list information is obtained automatically.

    

Recorder's operation is available when DIGA Player shows recorded list or channel list.

Switch to the channel list by tapping channel list icon on the recorded list
Switch to the recorded list by tapping recorded list icon on the channel list.

2. 2.    Let's play recorded program of Panasonic Blu-ray™ Recorder on Android device

    

Search program to view by sliding recorded list up and down on internal HDD or USB-HDD connected to the recorder on Android device.
 
Playback is available on Android device by tapping program name.
Drive (HDD/USB-HDD) selection screen can be displayed by tapping drive name (HDD/USB-HDD) on the recorded list view, and recorded list of the tapped drive is displayed.

While program is played on the recorder, "Now Viewing" is indicated on recorded list. The program can be played on Android device by selecting "Now Viewing"

    

Playback control panel is indicated on the screen during playback.
Operation during playback is as below.

  • Recorded list can be displayed by tapping list icon.
  • Scrub of progress bar (change playback time)
  • 60seconds forward skip / Pause playback / Start playback 10seconds back skip

2. 3.    Let's view live broadcast

    

Search channel to view by sliding channel list up and down on Android device.
 
* Item to be displayed in Broadcast menu differs between countries.
 
Live broadcast can be viewed on Android device by tapping channel name.
Category selection screen can be displayed by tapping category name (All Channels or Favourites1 etc.) on the channel list view, and channel list of the tapped item is displayed.

When channel is selected and viewed on TV, "Now Viewing" is indicated on channel list. The channel can be viewed on Android device by selecting "Now Viewing".

    

Operation during viewing is as below.

  • Channel list can be displayed also by tapping on the screen.
  • The channel is selected by tapping the channel on the channel list.

2. 4.    Use as remote control

2. 4. 1.    Change output display

    

By tapping "Display icon", output display can be changed to "TV".
Then the application can be used as replacement of remote control.

The program is played on TV by tapping the program name on the recorded list.

Operation during playback is as below.

  • Scrub of progress bar (change playback time)
  • Switch playback 1.3 double speed and playback in normal speed
  • 60seconds forward skip    /    10seconds back skip
  • Skip back    /    Stop    /    Pause playback/Start playback    /    Skip forward

2. 4. 3.    View live broadcast

The program is played on TV by tapping the program name on the recorded list.
 
Check mark is indicated on the channel which is being viewed on TV.

Programs on the recorded list can be searched by tapping "Search icon".

When the differences between information on DIGA Player and the recorder occur, latest information can be obtained by pressing “Reload icon” on each screen of the list.

2. 6.    Let's use DIGA Player by Android device of tablet type

Tablet type provides the same functions of phone type, but it brings you user-friendly operational feelings by composing menu on big screen.

* Item to be displayed in Broadcast menu differs between countries.

Select category from Broadcast menu when you want to watch live broadcast. Also select drive from Drive menu when you want to play recorded program.

Furthermore, output display can be changed by selecting Mobile or TV on Display menu.

If you want to use tablet type on vertical mode, Broadcast / Drive / Display menu can be displayed by tapping title name (All Channels, HDD etc.) on upper left of the screen.

3.    Supported Android Devices

DIGA Player can be installed to Android device with Android 2.3.3 or later platform version.
However, streaming playback or other function may not be possible to work correctly on some Android devices and they may not work correctly depending on installed Android version even for same Android device.
It is recommended to update latest available Android version to use DIGA Player application.

4.    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q.01 Which device is supported to enjoy DIGA Player application?
A.01
Android devices with Android 2.3.3 or higher platform version are supported, and it is recommended to update latest available Android version to use DIGA Player application.
It may not be possible to work correctly on some Android devices.

Q.02 DIGA Player does not find Blu-ray™ Recorder which you will use. How can this be solved?
A.02
    There are various possible reasons.
  1. Your Blu-ray™ Recorder may not be connected to the same wireless network (Wi-Fi) where your Android device connects. It is recommended that your Blu-ray™ Recorder and Android device are on the same wireless network (Wi-Fi).
  2. Your wireless router may stop IP multicast packets. In this case, this may be solved by snooping function switching off. Please refer to your wireless router's owner's guide.
  3. DIGA Player application does not support proxy function. If your network settings of your Android device uses proxy, please remove proxy settings.
  4. Your Recorder does not support Streaming playback or Remote Recording.
    • Streaming playback is supported by Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder.
    • Remote Recording is supported by 2013 Panasonic Recorder.

Q.03 Which languages are supported?
A.03
English, German, French, Italian and Spanish are supported as display language. Display language is automatically changed by language setting of Android device.

Q.04 Some recorded programs are not found in recorded list, or channel information does not match to actual one. How can this be solved?
A.04
If “Reload icon” is pressed, recorded programs and channel information are synchronized with latest one onto Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder.

Q.05 Streaming playback does not start on Android device with error message. How can this be solved?
A.05
    There are various possible reasons.
  1. While your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder runs particular function, playback on Android device is not possible to operate. (e.g. any streaming playback is not possible on Android device, while copy, file conversion, Pause Live TV, Rewind Live TV, playback of Blu-ray Disc™, network function (VIErA Connect, Skype etc.), Software download and function in setup menu is running on your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder, and additionally, streaming playback of live broadcast is not possible while 2 simultaneous recordings are running on your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder)
    Try to start streaming playback again after above operation on your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder is finished.
  2. Streaming playback on Android device is not possible for copy-protected programs.
  3. Streaming playback on Android device is not possible for the programs with parental restriction higher than the level which is set on your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder by Child Lock function.
    It is recommended to change Child Lock setting to “No Block” at tuning menu in setup menu on your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder.
  4. Streaming playback of programs that are recorded with guidance information is not possible if Child Lock for playback setting is ON. (This function is available for UK model.)
    If you want to playback these programs on Android device, it is recommended to change Child Lock setting to "Off" at Settings for Playback menu in setup menu on your Blu-ray Disc Recorder.
  5. Streaming playback of live broadcast on Android device is not possible while signal condition into your Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder is bad.
    It is recommended to check antenna connection.
  6. Streaming playback on Android device is not possible while wireless network (Wi-Fi) condition is bad.
    It is recommended to check your network condition.
  7. It may not be possible for some Android devices to handle the stream that is transferred from Blu-ray Disc Recorder correctly.
    It may be possible to make streaming playback if your Android device is updated to latest available Android version.
  8. If the problem is not fixed by above solutions, it is recommended to reset Blu-ray Disc Recorder. (Please hold power button of the unit for 5 seconds and press the button again.)

Q.06 Is it possible to use 2 Android devices for same Blu-ray Disc™ Recorder at the same time.
