GPS Assist Data update service

GPS Assist Data Update Procedures (Overview)


STEP 1. Download the GPS Assist Data

  For Windows Users
  1. Make a temporary folder on your PC for downloading the file,e.g. C:/Temp.
  2. Download and save the GPS Assist Data in the folder you created in the above step.

    LUMIX
    GPSDATA.DAT / Approximately 270KB

  3. Click the [ downloaded ] button.
    You may see following screen after you have clicked the [ download ] button, please click "Save" button and move to the next step.
  For Macintosh Users
  1. Make a temporary folder on your Macintosh for downloading the file.
  2. Download and save the GPS Assist Data in the folder you made in the above step.

    LUMIX
    GPSDATA.DAT / Approximately 270KB
STEP 2. Copy the GPS Assist Data file onto Built-in memory or an SD Memory Card.

Copy the GPS Assist Data downloaded by "step 1" onto Built-in memory or an SD Memory card.

  In case of copying the GPS Assist Data file onto Built-in memory
  1. Make sure to turn off the LUMIX.
  2. Connect the LUMIX and PC with USB cable.
  3. Turn on the LUMIX.
  4. Below screen wiill be shown on the LCD.
    Press [] to select the [GPS assist data] menu, then press [MENU/SET].
    A massage "Please execute GPSASIST with a PC" is displayed on the monitor, but executing GPSASIST is not necessary. Please ignore it.
  5. Copy theUpdate file (GPSDATA.DAT) into the Root directory (*1) of the removal Disk.
    (*1) Root directory = The first or top-most directory in the hierarchy.
    When GPS Assist Data (GPSDATA.DAT) is already on the Root directory, please overwrite it.
  6. After Copying is completed, detach the USB cable to abort a USB mode.
  7. Turn off the LUMIX.
  In case of Copying the GPS Assist Data file onto an SD Memory Card

Preparation of the SD Memory Card

270 KB or more space must be available on the SD Memory Card and use an SD Memory Card which has already been formatted for the LUMIX.
Please refer to your instruction manual for detailed information. (Use LUMIX to format the SD Memory Card.)
In formatting the SD Memory Card, all data including protected data will be erased and can not be recovered. Please make sure to back up your important data so you don't loose it.

1. Insert your formatted SD Memory card to your SD slot of your PC.
If your PC does not have an SD slot, use an external USB SD Reader/Writer device.

2. Make the [AD_LUMIX] folder into the Root directory (*1) of the SD Memory Card.

(*1) Root directory = The first or top-most directory in the hierarchy.

3. Copy the GPS Assist data (GPSDATA.DAT) onto [AD_LUMIX] folder of the SD Memory Card.
When GPS Assist Data is already in the folder, please overwrite it.

4. Remove the SD Memory Card.

STEP 3. Update the data and verify data is updated.
  1. Make sure to turn off the LUMIX.
  2. Insert the SD Memory Card prepared in STEP 2 into the LUMIX in case of using SD Memory Card.
  3. Turn on the LUMIX.
  4. Press [MENU/SET] button to show Menu.
  5. Press [ / / / ] to select the [GPS] menu, then press [MENU/SET].
  6. Press [ / / / ] to select the [Assist Data] menu, then press [MENU/SET].
  7. Press [ / / / ] to select the [Expiry Data] menu, then press [MENU/SET].
    When the start day of the validity term is the day one day before you downloaded the the GPS Assist Data, the update process is completed.
    Note: Validity period begins the day before.
