Image App

This application allows remote control of Panasonic cameras equipped with a Wi-Fi function using a smartphone / tablet.
 
This application is compatible with smartphones with the following OS versions.
  • iOS 5.0 - 7.0

LUMIX CLUB

Depending on your smartphone contract, you may be subject to expensive data charges if you send images over your smartphone mobile network.

Images with location information added using the location information acquiring function may contain personal information such as location information which could be used to identify you. Be aware of these issues when you upload images to a website.

Connecting digital camera through Wi-Fi

Begins Wi-Fi connection setup* in order to use this application's function.

*Available Wi-Fi features differ depending on the type of Wi-Fi connection.
  For more content details, connection problems or other ways to connect other than the method below, please refer to the digital camera's user's manual.

Read a QR code to connect * (Applicable Model: DMC-SZ8/TZ55/TZ56/TZ60/TZ61/ZS35/ZS40)

* In the event that the smartphone / tablet cannot clear read the QR code, please use a different connection process.


  1. Press and hold the [Wi-Fi] button on the camera.
  2. Start "Image App" on the smartphone.
  3. Select [QR code] > [OK].
  4. Read the QR code displayed on the camera in step 1 with "Image App" on the smartphone.
  5. Install the IMAGE APP profile.
    Select [Install], then select [Install Now] > [Done]. The message is displayed in the Web browser.
    • If a passcode is required to unlock the smartphone, you will have to input the passcode.
  6. Press the home button to close the Web browser.
  7. Select [Wi-Fi] under [Settings] on the smartphone.
  8. Select the SSID displayed on the camera in step 1.
  9. Return to the home screen and start "Image App".
    • Steps 2 to 6 are not necessary when reconnecting.

Connect manually

  1. Press and hold the digital camera's [Wi-Fi]* button, and select [New Connection] > [Remote Shooting & View]
     
       *On DMC-GM1, the [Wi-Fi] button will be [Fn 1]. The [Fn 1] button will be set for [Wi-Fi] by default at the time of purchase.
         If the [Fn 1] button is reprogrammed for another function by the user, that function will engage instead.
         To change settings, press the MENU button > [Custom] > [Fn Button Settings].
  2. Tap the iOS device settings icon and turn the Wi-Fi function on.
  3. The SSID of the connected destination will be displayed on the screen, so select the same SSID as the one displayed on the digital camera screen and enter the password.
  4. Press the home button to exit the settings screen and start this application.
    • When the connection is complete, an image of the digital camera will be displayed on the screen.

Note:
  • When changing the connection method, change it on the digital camera.
  • Since Wi-Fi connection drains battery quickly it is better to recharge before use when power is low.
  • In some cases, a QR code message may be displayed, but it cannot be used.
  • When launching Image App, the following message may be displayed and the Wi-Fi connection may not be completed.

If that happens, proceed as follows.

  • When Using DMC-GM1:
         When the ambient temperature is high, continuous recording in Burst Mode, motion picture recording, continuous use of a Wi-Fi connection or other conditions
         are causing the camera to overheat, will appear over this application's screen.
         When this happens, a warning message will be displayed within approximately three minutes.
         (Except for the recording screen, only the warning message will be displayed)
         If the message is displayed, in order to protect the camera, any Wi-Fi connections will be disconnected and the camera will automatically turn itself off.
         When this happens, reconnection or picture/video recording will be disabled until the camera cools down.

Remote recording [DMC-G6/GF6/GM1/GX7/LF1/SZ8/TZ55/TZ56/TZ60/TZ61/ZS35/ZS40]

    Preparation:
  1. Connect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi
  2. Tap the icon that is displayed at the bottom of the screen when starting up this application to display the recording screen
     

Note (When using DMC-G6/GF6/GM1/GX7) :

  • If the digital camera is used while using the remote function on smartphone / tablet, the smartphone / tablet remote function will be stopped, and digital camera operations will be given priority.
  • During digital camera operation, [Camera operation is in progress.] is displayed, and it cannot perform smartphone / tablet operations. Specifically, when the digital camera is in Playback Mode, [Camera operation is in progress.] will continue to display. If you want to resume smartphone / tablet operation, please switch the digital camera itself to recording mode.
Taking a picture
  1. Tap
    • When Burst mode has been set, tap to take multiple pictures in quick succession.*
      * This function is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.
Recording a video

* This function is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.

  1. Tap
    • Video recording is started. Tap again to stop recording video.
Using zoom

Move the zoom lever toward T (telephoto) to magnify and toward W (Wide) to widen zoom.

Changing recording settings, etc.

Tap the icons below to perform each setting.
(For smartphones)
If you tap or , the icons below will be displayed. If you tap or again, you will return to the original screen.

Simply touch the subject you want to focus on, and it will automatically focus and release the shutter.
You can easily optimize the brightness in the position that you touched.
· This icon is not displayed for DMC-GF6 / LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.
You can select the focus method depending on the position and number of the subjects.
* Set the Aperture and Shutter Speed, etc.
·This setting is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.
* The icon display will change depending on the digital camera and the settings.
Compensation will be made if you cannot obtain proper exposure, such as when there is a great difference between the brightness of the subject and the background.
Set Single, Burst, Auto Bracket and Self-timer.
· This setting is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.
Adjust White Balance.
· This setting is not available when using DMC-LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.
Set Sensitivity (sensitivity to light).
· This setting is not available when using DMC-LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.

Tap to display information (settings etc.) on the top and bottom of the recording screen. You can cancel the displayed information by tapping again.

Tap to display other recording settings and to perform settings such as [Picture Size].

Note:

  • Depending on the recording mode, some items may not be displayed, and setting values may differ.
  • The options you can set change depending on the model and settings of the digital camera.
  • Setting options and setting values are only part of the digital camera items. All of the setting options and setting values will not be displayed.
  • Operation may differ from the digital camera.
  • After changing settings, the quality of the image displayed on your smartphone / tablet can differ from the image displayed on your digital camera. It is recommended that you check image quality using the playback screen on your digital camera.
Taking pictures using the Touch Shutter function

Simply touch the subject you want to focus on, and it will automatically focus and release the shutter.

  1. Tap
    • Icon will change to , and taking a picture with the Touch Shutter function becomes possible.
  2. Touch the subject you wish to focus on, and then take a picture
    • The picture is taken when the focus is achieved.
    • Tap once again to cancel the Touch Shutter function.
Easily optimizing the brightness for a specified area (Touch AE)

* This function is not available when using DMC-LF1 / SZ8 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS40.

When setting [Touch AF] to [AF+AE] in [Touch Settings] in the [Custom] menu on the digital camera, you can optimize the focus and brightness in the area you touch. Touch the subject for which you would like to optimize the brightness to display the AF area frame and brightness optimization position. The brightness and focus can be optimized in the same area.

  • Tap to cancel the setting.

(For Manual Focus)
This function is not available for when using DMC-GF6.
When using DMC-G6/GM1/GX7, the settings screen for the position for brightness optimization will be displayed and only the brightness can be optimized.
 

When using DMC-G6/GM1/GX7
 

If the [Touch Settings] are different from those above, you can only optimize the brightness for the area that has been touched.
  1. Tap
  2. Touch the subject for which you would like to optimize the brightness
    The settings screen for the position for brightness optimization will be displayed.
  3. Tap [Set]
    • This will optimize the brightness in the position touched.
    • Tap to cancel the brightness optimization position.
Taking pictures with an automatic focus point (Auto Focus)

When the digital camera is set to Auto Focus, touching the screen will display the AF Area frame, and the point of focus can be adjusted.
Explanation follows below.

Item
Contents
[Face Detection] Recognize people's faces, adjust focus point and exposure.
[AF Tracking]* Adjusts to the set subject and exposure. The focus point and exposure will follow even if the subject moves.
* This function is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.
[23-Area]* When the subject is not the center of the screen, AF Area can focus on up to 23-Areas.
* DMC-SZ8 can go up to 9 areas. DMC-TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35 can go up to 21 areas.
[1-Area] After the focus point has been selected, the AF Area frame in the center of the screen will focus accordingly.
[Pinpoint]* When you want to focus on a point smaller than [1-Area], use the enlarged view and select a focus point.
* This function is not available when using DMC-LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.
[SPOT]* The camera focuses on a limited narrow area in the screen.
* This function can be used on the DMC-TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.
  • Tap to clear the AF Area frame settings.
  • Tap [Reset] to return the AF Area frame to the center of the screen.
  • When changing Auto Focus Mode, you can change the digital camera's settings or change settings with the icon * on the screen.
  • Operation may differ from the digital camera.

* When using a smartphone, tap or to display icon .

Setting the focus point manually after adjusting the automatic focus point (AF+MF)

* This function is not available when using DMC-G6 / GF6 / LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.

If [AF+MF] is active in the digital camera custom menu, when the focus mode is set to [AFS], a Manual Focus slide bar will be displayed, allowing you to adjust the focus point manually. Tap the slide bar to switch to MF Assist and display the enlarged screen. Set the focus point and tap to take a picture.

  • If you tap [Exit] before tapping, your settings will be discarded and you will be returned to the Auto Focus screen.

Manually selecting focus point (Manual Focus)

* This function is not available when using DMC-SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / ZS35.

When the digital camera is set to Manual Focus, a sliding bar appears on the screen, and the focus point can be manually adjusted.

When using DMC-GM1/GX7/TZ60/T61/ZS40


You can adjust the sliding bar shown below by dragging it.

  • If the Touch Shutter function is active, touch the screen to take a picture.
  • Tap to adjust the focus point within the AF area displayed on the screen.
    By dragging the AF area, you can adjust its position.
    When using MF Assist (see below), the focus point will be set to the center position of the screen
  • Each time the following buttons are tapped, the peaking setting will switch.
    When the peaking is active, in-focus portions are highlighted with color. *
    : The detection level for in-focus portions is High.
    : The detection level for in-focus portions is Low.
    : In-focus portions are not highlighted.

    * Depending on the recording mode, this function may not operate.

MF ASSIST (Manual focus ASSIST)

(Displaying the MF Assist)

  • Double tap (tap twice in quick succession) or pinch out (spread apart two fingers) to switch to the MF Assist screen and display the enlarged screen.*
  • * This can only be performed with the Touch Shutter function disabled.

  • Each time is tapped, the enlarged display will switch between a windowed screen display and a full screen display.
    You can scroll by dragging the screen
  • By tapping / , you can zoom in / zoom out (by 0.1x). With a long tap, you can zoom in / zoom out by 1x.
  • You can also zoom in / zoom out by pinching out (spreading two fingers) or pinching in (bringing two fingers together.)
  • Tap [Reset] to return the magnified position to the center.

(Closing the MF Assist)

  • Double tap the screen or tap [Exit] to close MF Assist.
When using DMC-G6/GF6/LF1

You can adjust the sliding bar shown below by dragging it.

Display [MF Assist]
  • Tap the recording screen to switch to the MF Assist screen, and display zoom.
  • Tap / to enlarge/shrink the image.
  • Tap [Reset] to return the magnified position to the center.
Creating a video with [Stop Motion Animation]

* This function is not available when using DMC-LF1 / SZ8 / TZ55 / TZ56 / TZ60 / TZ61 / ZS35 / ZS40.

Shoot a stationary object like a doll while moving it bit by bit to create a video that looks as if it is moving by connecting these images.

  1. Tap
  2. Tap [Stop Motion Animation]
  3. Tap [Start]
  4. Tap [New]
        The recording screen is displayed.
  5. Tap
        Manually shoot 1 frame at a time.

            (When confirming/deleting recorded images)
        · You can delete and confirm recorded images by tapping and going to the playback screen.
           When deleting, if you press and hold the image for more than 1 second, the deletion tab will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Drag & drop the image to delete it.

  6. Tap [Complete] to exit recording
  7. Select method for creating video
        Set the quality, frame rate, and sequence.
  8. Tap [Execute]

Note:

  • When recording in [Stop Motion Animation] with the digital camera, the 2 previously recorded images will be displayed, but they are not displayed on this application.
  • Pictures recorded in [Stop Motion Animation] will be displayed together in a single Picture group. If only a single image is recorded, it will not be recorded as a Picture group.
  • Created videos will be saved in MP4 recording format.
  • In some cases, [Stop Motion Animation] cannot be used depending on the recording mode.

  2. Start this application and tap at bottom of screen to display recording screen
     
       
    • Since Wi-Fi connection drains battery quickly it is better to recharge before use when power is low.
Recording
  1. Tap shutter button
    • When the digital camera is set to Burst mode, tap to take multiple pictures in quick succession.
Record a video

* This function is not available when using DMC-SZ9.

  1. Tap
    • Video recording is started. Tap again to stop recording video.

Switches information displayed on the screen

Item Contents
[Aperture/Shutter Speed] Shutter speed will be adjusted to the set aperture. If shutter speed is given priority, the aperture will be adjusted.
[Exposure] Exposure compensation can be set.
  • Tap to return to the previous screen.
  • Setting options and setting values are only part of the digital camera items. All of the setting options and setting values will not be displayed.
  • Operation may differ from the digital camera.
  • After changing settings, the quality of the image displayed on your smartphone / tablet can differ from the image displayed on your digital camera. It is recommended that you check image quality using the playback screen on your digital camera.
Taking pictures with an automatic focus point (Auto Focus)

When the digital camera is set to Auto Focus, touching the screen will display the AF Area frame, and the point of focus can be adjusted.

Self shot mode

When taking a picture of yourself, the image on the screen of your smartphone / tablet will be flipped* (a mirror image). This function is useful for taking pictures of yourself or of a group, as you can see the scene before taking the picture.
* The actual screen when taking pictures is not flipped.

Playing back images on digital camera

    Preparation:
  1. Connect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi
    • For connection procedure, see instructions for each device.
Playback
  1. Start this application and tap at bottom of screen
        Multiple image list appears. (Multi Playback)
    • Scroll (finger drag up / down) screen to display previous / next screen.
    • will show for video thumbnails.
    • Depending on signal strength, screen may take time to display and/or scrolling may not be smooth.
  2. Tap image to play back Images are played back.
    • Flick (finger drag up / down) screen to display previous / next screen.
    • Image name and recording time will show at top of screen.
    • Smartphone / tablet will display for images protected on digital camera.
    • *1 / *2 / *3 will be displayed in the Picture group (Burst *1 /Stop Motion Animation *2 /Time Lapse Shot *3 ). Tap the Picture group thumbnail to display a list of the images in the group.
    • 3D still pictures will be played back in 2D.

Note:

  • (When using DMC-G6/GM1/GX7/TZ60/TZ61/ZS40)
        When playing back video, if the image quality of the video is high or the signal is weak, the playback may not run smoothly and skip frames.
      (When using the others)
        Videos inside the digital camera cannot be played. Please save videos to a smartphone / tablet to play them.
  • When copying images from digital camera to smartphone / tablet, it may take some time depending on the image type and Wi-Fi connection strength.
  • Depending on the type of smartphone / tablet, you may not be able to save or play. Please check your smartphone / tablet specifications to confirm compatible video types.
  • When displaying enlarged images, there may be some grid-shaped noise in the enlarged image. This noise appears when the image is enlarged, and it does not mean that there is noise in the original image.
  • For videos or still pictures that cannot be played back with this application, the “!” thumbnail will be displayed.
  • When is displayed in the thumbnail, you cannot save the still picture or video to your smartphone / tablet. There is a possibility that even if the icon is not displayed, depending on the model of your smartphone / tablet, you will be unable to save.
Switching referents

        Referent list appears.

[LUMIX] Images stored on Wi-Fi-connected LUMIX camera
  • Displaying may be slow.
  • Not displayed when digital camera is not Wi-Fi connected.

[Camera Roll] Images stored in [Camera Roll]

[LUMIX CLUB Folder] Images shared with [LUMIX CLUB Folder]*1
  • Settings are required before using it. See [Share] for information on settings.

*1 This is a shared folder based on [LUMIX CLUB]*2.
*2 By uploading images to our website LUMIX CLUB, you can download them to Panasonic AV
     equipment in your home or elsewhere, and you can also submit them to sharing services
     on websites run by other companies.


Selecting multiple images

Tap at top of Multi Playback screen and check several images for multiple selection.
Tap icon again to return to Multi Playback screen.

Sending unsent images

Tap at top of screen to display unsent image list and choose options.
Number of unsent images is shown together with this icon.

Turning off digital camera

Tap at top of screen to turn off digital camera.

View images automatically sent by the digital camera each time a picture is taken

When the digital camera is to set to [Send Images While Recording], the recorded images will be automatically sent to the smartphone / tablet, and added to [Camera Roll].

To playback added images, tap , go to the playback screen, and change the referents to [Camera Roll].

  • It may take some time to display the information.

Saving digital camera images on smartphone / tablet, sending them to websites, sharing them with other devices

Preparation:

  1. Connect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi
    • For connection procedure, see instructions for each device.
  2. Start this application and tap at bottom of screen to display playback screen
Save, send, delete

Images in digital camera can be saved in smartphone / tablet, sent to websites and/or AV devices or deleted.

  1. Press and hold image for more than 1 sec
       Forward destination tabs will show at top, bottom, left and right of screen.
  2. Drag image to desired forward destination tab
        
        (The illustration is an example.)
Following forward destination tabs will show in initial settings:

      

    Save in smartphone / tablet.

  • Saving may be slow depending on image size.
  • Videos recorded in AVCHD cannot be saved.
  • 3D still pictures (MPO format) are saved as 2D still pictures (JPEG).
  • Picture group cannot be saved together.

   

    Send to [LUMIX CLUB]*.

  • You need to log in with your ID. Tap [Sign up] and follow registration instructions to get a login ID.
  • Picture group cannot be sent together.

* By uploading images to our website LUMIX CLUB, you can download them to Panasonic AV equipment in your home or
   elsewhere, and you can also submit them to sharing services on websites run by other companies.


      

    Delete images.

  • Protected images will not be deleted.
  • Picture group cannot be deleted together.

Selecting multiple images

Tap Menu   >  [Playback settings]   >  [“Picture Share” settings] and drag icons on screen to tabs displayed at top, bottom, left and right of screen to set tabs as forward destinations.

  • When setting Facebook, YouTube and/or other SNS as forward destinations.
    SNS icons will show on setting screen. Drag desired SNS icon to tab and follow setting instructions. *
    You need to log in with your ID.Tap [Sign up] and follow registration instructions to get a login ID.
    * Uploading to SNS mentioned above, you need to log in with your LUMIX CLUB ID.
Share

Share and play back images with [LUMIX CLUB Folder]*1 compatible devices and software.

  1. Tap menu button
  2. Tap [Playback settings]   >  [LUMIX CLUB settings]
  3. Activate [Start LUMIX CLUB function use]
    • You need to log in with your ID. Tap [Sign up] and follow registration instructions to get a login ID.
  4. Tap [Cloud sync. settings]
    • Follow setting instructions on screen.
  5. *1 This is a shared folder based on [LUMIX CLUB]*2.
    *2 By uploading images to our website LUMIX CLUB, you can download them to Panasonic AV equipment in your home or elsewhere, and you can also submit them to
         sharing services on websites run by other companies.

  • It is recommended that [Cloud sync. settings]   >  [Transfer:Wi-Fi only] and [Transfer:Charge only] options should be active when uploading and downloading high-volume data.

Editing still pictures on Photo Collage function

Take your favorite still pictures and combine them together on one image on your own.

Preparation:

  1. Connect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi
    • For connection procedure, see instructions for each device.
Editing
  1. Tap
  2. Tap [Photo Collage]
  3. Pick a frame
    The frame selection screen is displayed.
    Tap the frame you want to use.
    • The number of still pictures you can use will vary depending upon the frame.
  4. Choose a still picture *
    The still picture thumbnails are displayed.
    • Please put a check mark in the thumbnails of the still pictures you want to insert into the frame.

      *If the digital camera is not connected, the thumbnails of still pictures saved in [Camera Roll] will be displayed.

  5. Tap [Execute]
    It will begin to insert the still pictures into the selected frame.
    • If you want to change the photo frame, please tap .
    • If you want to change the still pictures, please tap the smartphone / tablet's back button, and please reselect still pictures from step 4.
  6. Tap and save the edited image
    The message [The pictures have been saved.] will be displayed.
    • To conclude editing in photo frame, tap
Note:
  • Images that have been edited once cannot be re-edited later.
  • iFrame videos and videos saved in MP4 are not supported.
  • If a video is selected, the image being displayed as the thumbnail can be used.

Adding location information from smartphone / tablet onto digital camera images*

* This function is not available on smartphones / tablets not equipped with the location information acquiring function.

Preparation:

  1. Connect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi
    • For connection procedure, see instructions for each device.
    • Activate location information option on smartphone / tablet.
Adding location information on images in digital camera
  1. Tap
  2. Tap [Geotagging]
  3. Tap [Time sync] to adjust current time on digital camera
  4. Check [Rec. loc. Info] box to activate function
    • Max. location data storage capacity is 600,000 entries.* New entries exceeding max. amount will overwrite older data.
      *Approx. recording period is 1 month at a 5-sec. [Recording interval].
    • Turn off [Rec. loc. Info] when not using it as it consumes battery quickly while active.
  5. Tap [Send location data] to send such data to digital camera
    • For using sent location data, see digital camera operating instructions.
       
Setting recording interval

Tap [Recording interval] to select location information recording interval. 1, 5, 15, 30, 60 sec. intervals are available.

Displaying recording log

Tap [Operation log] to display location information recording logs. Max. log storage capacity is 20 entries. New entries exceeding max. amount will overwrite previous data.

Note:
  • After recording begins, location data will continue to be recorded according to the set [Recording interval]. During that time, If you film with the digital camera while switching multiple SD cards, please perform [Send location data] for each SD card.
    1. Insert the SD card into the digital camera.
    2. Start this application.
    3. Tap [Send location data].
    4. When [Location data sent. Erase location data?] is displayed, tap [Cancel].
    5. Switch the SD card in the digital camera.
    6. Reconnect smartphone / tablet to digital camera via Wi-Fi.
    7. After confirming connection to Wi-Fi, return to step 2.
  • If you press the Home or On/Off button of a smartphone / tablet while [Rec. loc. Info] is working, location information recording is stopped.

Wi-Fi
Q.
When launching Image App after performing the Wi-Fi settings on the camera, the Wi-Fi connection may be not completed.
 
A.
First close Image App. Turn the Wi-Fi function off and then on again in the iPhone/iPad settings menu, and then relaunch Image App.

Perform the following procedure.


Q.
When connecting the smartphone to the camera by selecting "Select a destination from History" on the Wi-Fi Setup Menu of the camera, the following message is displayed when Image App is launched, and the connection is not completed.
 
A.
Please select "New Connection" on the camera's Wi-Fi Setup Menu, perform Wi-Fi connection again and then launch Image App.
Other
Q.
The message “Failed to copy because the image format is not supported on this application.” may be displayed while operating Image App.
 
A.
In that case, perform the following steps to change settings.
  1. Tap [Settings] > [Privacy] > [Photos] and set [Image App] to ON.
  2. Tap [Settings] > [Privacy] > [Location Services] and set [Location Services] to ON.
  3. Tap [Settings] > [Privacy] > [Location Services] and set [Image App] to ON.

Q.
The message “Images cannot be displayed. Enable [Location Services].” may be displayed while starting or operating Image App.
 
A.
In that case, perform the following steps to change settings.
  1. Launch Settings and tap Privacy.
  2. Tap Photos in the Privacy setting.
  3. Set Image App to ON in the Photos menu.
